MRI
An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) produces images of organs and soft tissue throughout the body using magnetic fields and radio frequency waves. It occasionally requires an intravenous injection of contrast medium into a vein, to create clearer images.

Breast MRI
- Refer to your local practice for specific preparation
- Takes 40-50 minutes
MRI Abdomen/Liver
- Fast for 4 hours prior to appointment
- Takes 20-60 minutes
MRI Enterography
- Fast 8 hours prior to appointment, then
- No fluids 6 hours prior
- Arrive 1 ½ hours prior to appointment
Paediatric MRI
- Takes 20-60 minutes
- Refer to your local practice for specific preparation
Spinal & Neuroimaging MRI
- Takes 20-60 minutes in total
- No preparation
